Pink Eye – The Natural Alternative
With the children returning to school, many homes are met with new challenges for illness. Common issues range from head lice to strep infections to conjunctivitis or pink eye. This is the issue we have had to overcome in our home. My husband’s job has him visiting many schools in a two state area. Recently he was an exhibitor at a conference where he had to shake many school employee’s hands. He brought it back to the nest.
Pink eye is extremely contagious. It spreads like wildfire through classrooms as children rub their eyes and then touch something. The next child touches the same object and rubs their eye and it has been spread.
What is Pink Eye?
Pink Eye is a redness and inflammation of the membranes or conjunctiva covering of the whites of the eyes as well as the membranes on the inner part of the eye lids. There are two forms of conjunctivitis – viral and bacteria. There are both infectious and noninfectious forms. Pink eye generally does not cause any changes in vision.
Viral Pink Eye has symptoms of red membrane and an inflamed eye accompanied by a watery discharge. Viral pink eye is more common in late fall and early spring. It can also have a cold like symptom with a runny nose.
Bacterial Pink Eye can come from Staphylococci and Streptococci, among others. Symptoms of pink eye caused by bacteria occur rapidly and can include: Eye Pain, Swelling, Itching, Redness, Moderate to Large Amount of Discharge – usually thick yellow or green color and swelling of the lymph nodes in front of the ears. This mucus will collect during the sleep and cause the eyes to stick shut requiring a warm cloth to release the mucous from the eyes. It is commonly thought that this form of infection requires antibiotic drops and a trip to the doctor.
But we did not do this. I believe that my husband had bacterial pink eye as he had yellow mucous discharge. My son has this as well. I am so blessed to have a community of like minded people around me to share their knowledge and expertise. Even though I am trained in Naturopathy there is no way that we can have the answers for everything.
The solution…….
Colloidal Silver
I purchased this product probably 6 months ago. I had been hearing how wonderful colloidal silver was for the immune system, cleaning dirty water and more. So on a whim I threw it into my online cart. It has sat in my office on a shelf untouched until this week. I mentioned to a friend that my hubby had a horrible pink eye infection. She quickly texted me saying “Are you using colloidal silver?” HUH? I had never heard of using it for pink eye. I was a little fearful of putting what I had in my husbands eye. So I contacted a fellow Naturopath that I knew used colloidal silver regularly. She reassured me that it was safe and effective.
So on Tuesday night we began to treat his eyes with 2 drops of colloidal silver in each eye. We followed it up with hot compresses to draw the infection out and reduce inflammation and swelling. Today is Thursday and he left the house headed for another conference looking almost back to normal. If you looked at him, you would think he had allergies. For my son, I started the drops immediately last night at the first sign of redness and irritation. I am treating both eyes in order to avoid a double infection.
So for pennies we were able to combat something that would have cost us a $50 medical center co-pay because we do not have a local doctor. We never need one. My home is always stocked with natural alternatives to prescriptions. Yours can be too. I will be talking about these things over the next few weeks and months. I don’t want to get political but my biggest concern for my fellow Americans is the looming danger of ObamaCare. It will not offer all that it claims to. You need to start now, learning how to help yourself and your family to use cheap and effective alternatives to visiting the doctor. It can be done. We have done it for the last 7 years. No antibiotics, no visits to pediatricians, nothing.

yeah, i have used colliodal silver on cat’s eyes and it works astoundingly well !
it’s an outstanding anti-bacterial, however it is also neurotoxic so i would caution against against over use, these people who take it daily are all gone in the head : o)
Boil (steep) regular tea bags in a cup, cool then apply to the affected eye. It may take a few days to clear up, but it works.
Also, make sure you keep your hands absolutely clean and don’t touch your eyes. Otherwise, you will keep reinfecting yourself.
